Autumn is a season of rich colors, cozy vibes, and endless possibilities for fun, all without needing to spend a fortune.

With a little creativity, you can make the most of everything fall has to offer while keeping your budget in check. If you are looking to enjoy fall without breaking the bank, look no further! Here are some of our favorite autumn activities:

  1. Leaf-Peeping Hikes: Enjoy the fall foliage with a hike in a local park or nature reserve. Many areas have low cost or entirely free nature walks and hikes. This is a great opportunity to get some exercise, enjoy the weather, and take in the vibrant colors of the season.
  2. Apple Picking: Visit a nearby orchard for apple picking. This can be an affordable family outing, as well as a great way to enjoy the cooler weather. Once you’ve returned home with your apples, you can use them to make homemade pies, cider, or other delicious fall treats!
  3. Pumpkin Carving: Invite some friends and family over to carve pumpkins to kick off the fall season. All you’ll need is some carving knives along with a few pumpkins. Set up a carving station with newspapers or tablecloths and at the end share your jack-o’-lantern creations with each other!
  4. Local Fall Festivals: Check and see if your community is hosting any fall events! This could be fall festivals, craft events, or farmer’s markets. Many of these events are free or low cost to attend.
  5. Homemade Fall Treats: Bake fall-inspired treats like pumpkin bread, apple crisp, or caramel popcorn. Many of the ingredients you probably already have in your pantry! Plus, these homemade treats make great gifts or snacks to share with family and friends.
  6. Scary Movie Marathon: If scary movies are your thing, they’re a perfect way to celebrate spooky season. Create a list of your all-time favorites, set up a cozy viewing area with blankets and popcorn, and invite friends and family over a marathon!
  7. Take Fall Photos: Capture the beauty of the season by heading out for a fall photoshoot. Whether it’s taking nature shots solo or gathering your family in cozy fits for group pictures, fall offers endless photo opportunities. You can even turn it into a fun outing by visiting local parks, nature trails, or other fall spots.
  8. Community Volunteering: Participate in volunteer activities like neighborhood clean-ups or food drives. You can do this alone or invite friends and family to join you. This is not only free, but a great way for you to give back to your community!
  9. Bonfire and S’mores: Gather friends and family for a cozy bonfire in your backyard or at a local park with a fire pit. Bring along some blankets, hot cocoa, and maybe even a guitar for a sing-along, and you’ve got the recipe for a perfect fall evening under the stars.
  10. Visit Historical Sites: Fall is the perfect season to dive into history! Whether it’s a guided tour of a local battlefield, a visit to a heritage home, or a museum exhibit, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to connect with the past while soaking in the beauty of the season.
  11. Crafting with Nature: Collect acorns, pinecones, and colorful leaves to create nature-inspired crafts. You can glue what you collect to construction paper to create a fall collage, or you can string everything together to make an autumn garland, or even use the items to decorate a wreath!
No matter how you decide to enjoy the season, make sure you get out and enjoy it. Take full advantage of this time of year and remember we’re here to support you in making the most of life.
